What films are on general release? When are the school holidays?
The top four films released on general release are mainly for young adults and upward this is because the school holidays haven't started so not many kids go to the cinema because they don't have enough time. However Moana and Sing were released because it is still bad weather so parents might want to take their kids to the cinema on a weekend so there has to be something on that children can go and see.
What genre of films are they?
Most of the genres are drama films but also have other genres throughout. This is because many people like films with drama in them but also like romance films or action films. There is also two animation films out that children will like because they are full of adventure and fantasy. Other film genres are:- Thriller
- Horror
- Musical
- Comedy
- Western
- War
- Spy Films
- Mystery
How many sequels?
In the top grossing films there at two sequels this tells us that people like to watch sequels as they lead on from the first films. Sequels are also in the top grossing films because people love the first film an get excited for the sequel to come out so they can see whether it is better or not.
How many blockbusters are aimed at younger people?
During 2016 there were quite a lot of blockbuster films released for children. However there are a lot more for adults this is because most of he year children are at school so they don't have a lot of time to see films. Whereas adults can go and see films during the evening after they have finished work.
How many were produced by the Big Six?
A lot of the blockbusters released are produced by The Big Six. This is because they are big companies and a lot of people watch films based on who they are produced and distributed by.

What kind of films seem to be missing?
Thriller and horrors seem to be missing from the top grossing films this is because there are no horrors that get released around this time. Most horrors get released around Halloween as it is the scariest time of the year.
How many of the film distributors are also the producers?
Only three of the five films above are distributed by their producers these are The Jungle Book, Finding dory and The Secret Life of Pets.
Who do you think are the target audiences for these?
I think these films all have different target audiences because they are all different types of films. The Secret Life of Pets, Finding dory and The Jungle Book are all for younger members of the population but will also be viewed by older people as well because they will be taking their children to the cinema to see it. Rogue one: A Star Wars Story and Captain America: Civil War have a different target audience this would be the older generation. This because Star Wars has been around for years so people who have seen them all would go and see it and because it is hard to understand at some points so children wouldn't understand it.
Have a look at release schedule in the UK for December 2016, January 2017 and Feb as we approach awards season and have a big blockbuster lead up in the fall. What are your findings?
